Explanation of Colt Cannon's Race Prophet Buttons

Along the top of the program you will see a number of buttons, the following is a description of those buttons.
1 . First Fraction: A Chart showing, in Feet Per Second, a comparison of how fast
these horse ran their first fraction in the race used for
comparison purposes. (no fraction speed is given for races
of 5 furlongs or less)
2. Second Fraction: Chart
showing, in Feet Per Second, a comparison of how fast these
horse ran their second fraction (often referred to as "turn
time") in the race used for comparison purposes. (no fraction
speed is given for races of 5 furlongs or less)
3. Leader at the Half: A chart
showing a comparison of the horses in the race showing the
expected leader at the half and his approximate margin in
lengths over each of the other horses. A strong predictive
tool for sprint races. This chart is most accurate when all
the horses comparison races are of a very similar distance.
When compared distances vary greatly it's accuracy will suffer
considerably. Note: When you scratch a horse, the
program will recalculate all of the information and show the
new leader and beaten lengths as if the scratched horse were
not in the race.
4. Third Fraction: A Chart
showing, in Feet Per Second, a comparison of how fast these
horse ran their third fraction in the race used for comparison
purposes. An important fraction for predicting Route Race
winners. (no fraction speed is given for races of 5 furlongs
or less)
5. AP: A
chart that shows all 3 fractions averaged (in feet per second).
Used in all races, best used in helping to predict the possible
order of finish in longer route races – 10 furlongs and greater
(1 and 1/4 miles or greater).
6. FPS: A chart
showing the Feet Per Second that each horse ran over the entire
distance of his comparison race. Sometimes the other chart
areas may not return a value even when a horse does have a
previous race, usually because the distance was too short
to divide into fractions. FPS chart will always return a value
if the horse has a previous race. This chart is
the most important speed chart I use when predicting
the possible order of finish in races of less than 5 furlongs.
7. Sprint: A chart of the probable best speed for a sprint race (Races of at least
5.5 furlongs but less than 8 furlongs). This chart combines
and averages the 1st and 3rd Fractions of the race. If odds
allow my personal preference is to bet two horses to win,
or hedge one of the two top horses out, of course your betting
would depend on your money management. * (see below)
8. Route: A chart of the probable best speed for a route race. (Races of 8 furlongs
and greater). This chart combines and averages the 2nd and
3rd Fractions of a race. If odds allow my personal preference
is to bet two horses to win, or hedge one of the two top horses
out, of course your betting would depend on your money management.
* (see below)
9. Energy: A
chart showing the approximate % of a horses total energy that
was used in the first half of the previous race that is being
used for comparison purposes.
10. Fitness: Exclusive to Race Prophet
- A
chart showing the fitness of each horse based on calculations
on the horses recent race and workout data (last 30 days).
Horses of average fitness are "0" or near zero. More fit horses
will have a higher positive number. Less fit horses will have
a lower negative number, with -10 being the lowest, meaning
that a horse hasn't had a race or workout in the last 30 days.
Though horses with a negative rating still win, they are most
likely to do so at short distances. The more arduous the race,
the more important a neutral or positive rating is.
11. Class Differential: (or Purse Differential) A
chart showing the difference (in dollars) between the purse
of today's race and each horses most previous race. (a "+"
number means a horse is stepping up in class, a " - " number
means the horse is racing for a smaller purse today than his
last race). This is an important chart .
Prove it to yourself by going through a number of races to
see how often a horse that was moving down in class won the
race. Most winning horses are racing at an equal or lower
level than their previous race.
12. Icons or "flags": Exclusive
to Race Prophet These marks may appear next to a
horses name in the projected order of finish. These icons
appear to remind you of things that may affect a horses performance
in the race. When you move your cursor over the icon it will
tell you why the icon appears. These reminders are
not extreme danger signals there to
tell you to disqualify a horse, just that a horse has something
in his or her data that you should be aware of.
A. "50" Day Icon -----means
that this horse hasn't raced in at least 50 days. Days away
and fitness are more important the greater the distance and
the higher the class of competition. You can view a chart
of all the horses "Days since last Race" under -- Other Charts.
B. "30" Day Icon -----means
that this horse hasn't raced in at least 30 days. Days
away and fitness are more important the greater the distance
and the higher the class of competition. You can view a chart
of all the horses "Days since last Race" under -- Other Charts.
C. Down Arrow Icon -----means
that this horse may be making what is known
as a "negative drop" in class. This down arrow appears in
claiming races when a horse has raced and done well at higher
classed claiming races in the very recent past is now dropping
down significantly in class. If he has competed well at higher
class levels, why is he dropping in class today? He may
have a problem and the owner or trainer is offering
him up to be claimed. Or he could just be dropping to try
to get a win.
D. Distance of Comparison Race: Next to the horses name in
the projected order of finish is the distance in furlongs
of the race used for comparison purposes. We place this information
here so that you can easily see if a horses comparison race
was of a shorter distance than his rivals and if his FPS numbers
should be "taken with a grain of salt".
*(It is still up to the user to handicap these top choices
based on your knowledge and your observations at your track
-- For instance, By default I choose the order of finish in
6.5 and 7 furlongs races as if they are sprint races. At your
track a 6.5 furlong race or a 7 furlong race may run most
often like a sprint while at another track they may run like
a route race (it can depend on the track)--medium distance
races like these can be highly profitable if you can determine
how they run at a particular track.)
Colt Cannon Pace Charts
Exclusive to Race Prophet. Fast and Slow refers to the early pace
in the race----any race can go off at a fast, or slow pace. I use these charts on
every race. These charts show an ability
rating for these horses in a "fast" paced race or in a
"slow" paced race. For many years my approach to handicapping has been
to first determine how a race will set up, then determine your contenders based
on that "set up". These
charts will become more important the longer you use the Race Prophet, and the more
adept you become at finding and interpreting the clues as to how the pace
of the race will set up. The numbers on these charts are derived from Feet Per Second
calculations but are not to be considered as such because several calculations
and algorithms are applied to those beginning numbers along with additional
information such as class. If
there is not enough data to complete the calculations the program returns a
"0". Once you can spot a
sprint that will be run at a "slow" or tactical pace or when you can
spot a route race that is set up to run at a "fast" pace---the payoffs can
be huge.
12. Fast Pace -----(proprietary
calculation)-----a chart that evaluates the relative ability
of each horse to compete in a race in which the early pace
is fast and one or two horses try to dominate the pace from
the outset. (most often corresponds to sprint races, but not
always)
( medium paced races----when it can't be determined if it
will be a fast or slow pace, it may set up as a medium pace,
many medium distance races as well as some longer route and
turf races will set up this way----a horses ability to compete
at a medium paced race will often be mirrored by his FPS Chart,
and that is the chart that I refer to when faced with the possibility
of a medium paced race)
13. Slow Pace ----(proprietary
calculation)------a chart that evaluates the relative ability
of each horse to compete in a race in which the early pace
is slow, or a race that is a tactical race, and no one makes
a major move until late in the race. (most often corresponds
to route races, but even sprints or medium distances races
often set up to run this way.)
Other Charts
14. Long Shot Locator ----Exclusive
to Race Prophet---(proprietary calculation)----this function
in the program looks for horses (with desirable odds) which
show the greatest ability to improve against this set of horses.
The Long Shot page will show up to 4 horses that meet the
criteria---- horses that can win against this field at longer
odds (10/1 or greater). Any horses shown are virtually even
in their ability to improve and upset one of our favorites
or at least finish in the money. Long shots don't win
often and I know of no sure way of knowing when
these horses are more likely to hit, all I can say is observe
the results of the Long Shot Locator over time and use them
or disregard them at your own discretion. One observation
I have made is that a long shot is far more likely to
win when there are only 1 or 2 horses shown rather
than when it identifies 3 or 4 horses.
15. Other Charts ----we
have included a button from which a drop down list will appear.
From here you can generate 17 more comparative charts
of everything from earnings, a horse's most recent Bris
Pace Ratings, morning line, the distance of the last
workout to what the track variant was on their compared race.
Included in the charts we create another exclusive feature---
a Bris run style display. Besides giving you their running
style it has a color bar, each color corresponds to a style,
now you can see at a glance what types of runners are in the
race. A great handicapping tool! Many of these charts have
to do with exclusive Brisnet information, for a pdf file of
definitions go to
www.brisnet.com/library/premexpl.pdf
Even though Race Prophet shows a predicted order of finish,
based on your settings, it is done strictly
on speed----- not fitness, or a horses suitability to run
at this class level, his jockey or weight carried or any of
the handicapping rules that you may have. You will find that
our order of finish does very well, but by using the other
charts and your own handicap capabilities, you can even improve
the percentage of wins and enjoy the satisfaction and fun
of having done so by using your own thoughts and skills.
